Project News from MONAGHAN FREIGHT LTD – From Ireland to Norway: The complex transport of six oversized acid tanks

Our EPNetwork member MONAGHAN FREIGHT LTD, representing Ireland, successfully coordinated the complex transportation of six large acid tanks from Suretank in Dunleer, County Louth, Ireland, to Dundalk Harbour for onward shipment to Norway.

Each tank measured 6 metres long × 5.80 metres wide × 5.80 metres high and weighed 26 tonnes. With a running height of 6.15 metres, the project required extensive route preparation and careful coordination to ensure safe passage from the manufacturing facility to the port.

The tanks travelled approximately 18 km from Suretank to Dundalk Harbour, where they were loaded onto a coaster vessel for delivery to Norway.

MONAGHAN FREIGHT LTD managed the complete road transport operation, including:
✅ Detailed route surveys and planning
✅All required permits
✅Police assistance
✅Pilot cars
✅Tree surgery along the route
✅Removal of telephone and power lines
✅Temporary removal of street furniture

The project required close coordination with local authorities, utility providers, police and other stakeholders to prepare the route and ensure sufficient clearance for these exceptionally large units.

This project is a strong example of the planning, technical expertise and local coordination required to successfully execute complex project cargo movements, from the manufacturing facility to the port and onwards to the final destination.
