Project News from Express Global Logistics: Multimodal & barging Movement of super-heavy process columns through synchronized SPMT and marine operations

We’re pleased to share a recent project highlight from our member Express Global Logistics, showcasing their expertise in complex heavy lift and project logistics.

Multimodal Movement of Super-Heavy Process Columns

Express Global Logistics successfully executed the multimodal transportation of two over-dimensional process columns from a fabrication facility in Dahej to an overseas Exxon site. This operation required seamless coordination across road transport, loadout, marine transit, and final delivery—within tightly controlled timelines.

Cargo Overview

✅ High-pressure column: 70.0 m (L) × 8.0 m (W) × 5.6 m (H), weighing 330 MT
✅ Low-pressure column: 65.8 m (L) × 8.0 m (W) × 5.3 m (H), weighing 248 MT

Execution Highlights

-Origin Handling & SPMT Operations

Both units were received onto Scheuerle SPMTs configured with 30 axle lines. Due to restricted yard space, turning and alignment required highly controlled execution, with pre-calculated load distribution ensuring stability throughout.

-Road Transportation

Despite the short distance to the loadout jetty, careful planning of route conditions, turning radii, and clearances ensured smooth and uninterrupted transport.

-Loadout & Barge Positioning

A 230-class barge, supported by a 2000 BHP tug, was positioned under tight tidal constraints. The loadout involved precise beaching and cargo transfer from SPMTs to barge, maintaining balance and structural integrity.

-Sea Fastening

All securing operations were completed within an accelerated timeframe of just 6 hours, meeting stringent engineering and safety requirements.

-Marine Transportation

The barge sailed along the western coastal route within a limited window, with continuous monitoring ensuring a safe and stable voyage.

-Final Delivery

At anchorage, cargo was delivered under FAS terms, with careful removal of sea fastening and smooth handover procedures.

Project Timeline

✅ Loadout: 3 days
✅Marine transit: 3 days
✅Discharge at MBPT Anchorage: 3 days

This project underscores Express Global Logistics’s ability to manage ultra-heavy and over-dimensional cargo with precision, discipline, and strong coordination across all stages of execution.
