💼 Project News: ICS I Central America & Caribbean

Project News from ICS | Central America & Caribbean 💼

After months of preparation, ICS | Central America & Caribbean smoothly delivered three 147-ton generating sets from manufacturer Bergen Engines to the beautiful Caribbean island of Roatán. 💪

Each generating set—consisting of an engine, alternator, and base frame—was assembled on-site using a hydraulic gantry, after a short transport from port to site with a 10-axle modular trailer. The vessel MV BBC Orion arrived at French Harbor, a small port with very limited draft.

Because of the port’s constraints, the vessel arrived almost empty. Months in advance, ICS | Central America & Caribbean conducted detailed feasibility studies to ensure safe berthing, including evaluations of alternative solutions such as transferring the cargo ashore by barge. Ultimately, the use of a low-draft heavy-lift vessel was selected as the most efficient and cost-effective solution 🚚

To execute the operation, the hydraulic gantry, Goldhofer modular trailers, and a 100-ton crane were mobilized by deck barge from mainland Honduras to Roatán.

From the vessel’s arrival at French Harbor to the final placement of the three generating sets on their foundations at Roatán Electric Company (RECO), the operation was completed in approximately 10 days.

In addition to the heavy-lift transport, the project’s overall logistics scope also included containerized cargo and urgent airfreight shipments, ensuring an overall seamless and timely delivery 👏

Congratulations to the ICS | Central America & Caribbean‘s team !
